SMS Messaging Consent & A2P 10DLC Compliance

Last updated: February 19, 2026

Project Orca is committed to transparent and compliant SMS messaging practices. This page explains how we obtain and manage consent for text messaging in accordance with A2P 10DLC (Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code) regulations and industry best practices.

A2P 10DLC is a messaging standard in the United States that regulates how businesses send SMS messages to consumers using standard 10-digit phone numbers. It requires explicit consent, clear identification of a sending application, and proper message content controls.

How We Capture Consent

Project Orca uses an SMS-based system to capture explicit consent before sending any marketing or promotional messages. Consent is obtained through user-initiated text messages in response to physical marketing materials at participating businesses.

Try It Now: Scan the QR code above with your smartphone camera to see how the consent process works. The QR code will pre-fill an SMS message to (866) 471-9691 with: "I want to LEARN about how to get Get a free taco! from Sample Taco Stand - sampletacostandfreetaco" - but it won't send automatically.

You'll have the opportunity to review the message before manually pressing send, which is when you provide express written consent to receive SMS messages from Project Orca.

2. Express Consent: Sending the SMS

You provide consent when you manually send the pre-filled text message. This is critical for A2P 10DLC compliance:

  1. User-initiated: The QR code does not automatically send a message. You must press "Send" on your phone.
  2. Express consent: By sending the message, you explicitly request to participate in the deal campaign.
  3. Consent timestamp: Our system logs the exact date and time you sent the message as proof of consent.
  4. Phone number verification: Sending the SMS proves you control the phone number.

3. Consent Confirmation: First Response

4. Continued Consent: Sending a Photo

When you send a photo in response to our message, you are continuing your participation and reaffirming consent. At any point in the process, you can reply "STOP" to withdraw consent and end the campaign.

5. Friend Consent: Web-Based Opt-In

6. Business User Consent: Phone Verification

Business owners and administrators who register to create deals verify their phone number through SMS verification. They receive a verification code and enter it in the web application to confirm account ownership and consent to receive business-related messages (deal confirmations, expiration notices, account updates).
